  • Lawyer (1975-1981); civil servant at the Ministry of Justice, Directorate of Criminal Law and International Legal Assistance (1981-1985)
  • Municipal councillor and first alderman in Tienen (1994-2000); Federal (1985-1995) and Flemish (1995-2007) Member of Parliament; member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union; secretary and member of the Extended Bureau of the Flemish Parliament (1995-2004); Vice-President of the Flemish Institute for Scientific Aspect Research (2000-2007); alternate member of the National Committee for the Rights of the Child (2007)
  • Appointed Judge in the Constitutional Court by Royal Decree of 13 December 2007
